I need to renew my laptops IP Adress, and i tried the method where you type "cmd" in the run bar, then you type in ipconfig /release,and that part worked,it came up with the screen that it should, but then i had to type in ipconfig /renew,but when i did that,i got a message saying "An error occurred while renewing interface wireless Network Connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. Request has timed out. No operation can be performed on Local Area Connection while it has its media disconnected."

My question is,What do I need to do in order to fix whatever this message is telling me is wrong?

Also please give as detailed instructions as possible, about how i would go about fixing the problem.

Thank you all in advance

  1. What this error means, is that your wireless connection cannot obtain an IP address from your router or ISP. It also is telling you that you do not have an ethernet cord pluged in. I would recommend reseting the router and trying the ipconfig/renew again. If you are trying to obtain an IP Address through your ISP, you will have to contact their tech desk.

  2. If you go to cmd,  type in ipconfig/all,  you should see somthing like this on your screen.

    Dhcp Enabled. . . . . . . . . . . : No

    Autoconfiguration Enabled . . . . : Yes

    Autoconfiguration IP Address. . . : 169.254.97.57

    Subnet Mask . . . . . . . . . . . : 255.255.0.0

    Default Gateway . . . . . . . . . : 169.254.97.57

Being that the ipconfig/release and ipconfig/renew didn't work,  give this a try...

try shutting down your pc and router.

Once the pc is completly powered down, restart the router, once the router is fully started, restart your computer..
