Question:

Problems with speech after a tonsillectomy?

My son and had his tonsils and adnoids removed almost a week ago. His speech is so bad I can hardly understand a word he is saying now that the procedure has been performed (he is 4). Is this normal and does this problem go away as his throat starts to heal more? I am worried something has happened to his vocal cords and this might be permanent. Any feedback would be appreciated :)

  1. I would call the doctor who performed the surgery and ask him about it. He should be able to put your mind at ease. I had both of mine removed when I was 8 but I don't recall ever having any problems with my speech. Good luck.
