My boyfriend and I are going to college in the fall about 1000 miles away from each-other. I have a new macbook pro and he has an IBM thinkpad laptop.

My camera works fine but his doesn't work. When he accepts a video chat he can't see me or even himself. We can't find the settings for the camera or anyway to fix it.

How can we fix his built in video camera? Please help, video chats are the only way we get to see eachother for months :(

  1. go to my computer, and see if it lists the camera there. if so, double click it and see if that works.

  2. I suppose he has windows vista, right?

Well in that case this is what i would suggest for him to do.

Go to Control Panel>Device Manager>Image Devices(I'm translating from Spanish to English but it should be the same, if not just tell him to open up all the drop down menus--the little plus signs--until he finds the webcam.)>Webcam>Right Click>Properties>Then in the pop up that opens look for Uninstall>Click on Uninstall>Restart>Upon Reboot Windows should recognize the webcam automatically.

I hope that solves your problem.
