I finally got my husband to agree to withdrawing my daughter from PreK in 2 wks to homeschool. (I'm not sure why 2 more weeks, but ok) What am I supposed to do...any protocols that yall know of??? I was just going to tell her teacher (and the principal's office) that she wouldn't be returning. Any suggestions? Husband thinks there is a certain way to do this.

Thanks!

  1. I agree with committee.  Make very certain you do this procedure in full compliance with your state laws.  For some of our friends who have done this, they met with supportive school staff who bent over backwards to make the process go smoothly.  And yet, I have known a handful for whom the principal took it as a personal affront and made their lives quite miserable for a long time.  So just be united in your decision, sure of the process, and confident that YOU know what is best for your child.

  2. Withdraw her out of the prek program the same way you would if she was in elementary school. If they ask for the reason of withdrawal, put down that you are going to homeschool her. You will have to go to the Board of Education and fill out paperwork. The paperwork is also referred to as the Intent to Homeschool papers. The Board of Education will give you the papers you need to fill out on a regular bases.

  3. Please go to www.Homeschool.com it tells all about it, and will help you through the whole process. Homeschool.com is the #1 Homeschooling Site in the world. Homeschool.com has E-KITS, materials, starter kits, and a list of sites that will help you. I hope I could help.

  4. you may have to go to the school department.  if i were you i'd keep your kid enrolled in school if you can't find your way around getting your child out of school.

  5. Each state varies in these requirements.  None of us can answer that unless we live in the same state you do.

I would highly recommend going to the Home School Legal Defense website: HSLDA.org.  Click on your state on the colored map and you will be lead to see the legal requirements for your state.  If you have questions, someone on staff can help you understand the laws.

I would highly recommend joining the association once you officially start.  They are your first line of defense and help when it comes to any legal issues concerning states and school districts.

I have been home schooling over seven years.

  6. If she's in pre-K, there is no procedure for withdrawing her. Pre-K is not compulsory in any state. Your daughter cannot be considered truant. Just telling her teacher and principal that she won't be returning is perfectly fine; nothing is required.

As for the homeschooling laws for your state, including compulsory age and any requirements you must meet once she IS of compulsory age, hslda.org is a good starting point. However, a local homeschooling group would be a better place to get accurate information; hslda is not always up to date or clear on all their info....
