Process for Women's US Olympic team?

Question

What is the process to be in the US women's olympic team?

Did they have the 2008 Women's US Olympic trials in China or in the US?

Did the girls already knew who was going to be on the US team or did they have to wait till they got to China?

After the trials what do they do, do they go through another competition to make sure their in the team?

Please I need alot of details, I want to write a story about a girl that goes to the US olympic team. I want to make sure I get it right.

P.S. I don't know alot of things about gymnastics, but I want to know.

I am not sure how the girls get invited to the Olympic Trials.  At this year's trials, the top 2 automatically made the Olympic Team.  The top 10 or so were then invited to a training camp in Texas.  At the conclusion of the camp, the 4 remaining team members were chosen.  The camp is operated by Marta and Bela Karolyi, Marta is the coach of the women's gymnastics team.  I am unsure of who makes the final decision as to which girls are added to the team.
