1.I was wondering what material boardgames such as monopoly or risk are made out of?

2. How do they make the graphics on the professional boardgames?

3. Do you have any Sources that I can look at to help with building a PROFESSIONAL board game?

If you now even one of the answers for these questions I would highly appreciate a response!

Thanks! A ton!

  1. You sound like you'd enjoy the TV show "How It's Made"

I love that show, it's on the Discovery Channel, maybe they did that one already....check it out:

  2. this should be a great place for you to start...

go to boardgamegeek.com and choose SEARCH, under FORUMS at the top

click on the drop down arrow and choose BOARD GAME DESIGN

put in the right keywords too and you'll find many articles there that should answer a lot of your questions

  3. Great response from the 2 poster.

On top of that, a lot of good parts can be acquired from this site:

To make a board is a little trickier as you would need to get professional press to handle it. For prototype I've seen a lot of buddies go to Kinkos to get a PVC mat with an engraving of their board picture (it looks really good but it cost about 30 to 40 bucks for a good sized board)..

Dice (if any are easy to get) and cards can be printed (usually at a few bucks for a 60 card deck. (you can use stock paper and sleeves to get a temporary deck for play test...

    Best regards,

  4. Boardgame boards are typically made out of a product called Chipboard, a cardboard type of product made from some portion of reclaimed material.

The graphics are typically designed by an art team, using whatever software based tools they deem appropriate (Illustator, PSP, etc.).

For game design, there's GAMA, the GAme Manufacturers Association: http://www.gama.org .  There's also the Board game Design Forum, found at: http://www.bgdf.com/ .

    Happy gaming!
