  1. Good question!

The processor is the chip which is the brains of the computer. It is also know as the CPU (Central Processing Unit).

Simple example: It is just like super most level of calculator...

AMD & Intel is the leading processor manufacturing company in the market!

Both are kind good based on your requirement...

AMD is good for Graphics work… advanced speed technology. (64bit processor)

The latest AMD processor is AMD Phenom X4!

for intel Xeon processor is the latest..

GHz: GHz is a kind of measurement. Here they are used for speed measurement in processor

Cache: Cache is a quick memory teachnoly used in intel. the same thing called in AMD called "direct connect"

Just let me your requirement.. i'll help you..

  2. AMD and Intel both product processors based on the x86 chipset that was out since DOS came along.

1Ghz is a measure of the frequency with which the processor works.

    Higher is better.

cache is memory closer to the processor so that there is no need to go out to the main memory to fetch the information needed. This is used for speeding up processing speed. The are two caches a level 1 and a level 2 cache and main memory. (from smaller in size / faster to bigger in size but slower)

    Please also check compukiss

Intel and AMD has a different approach. Lately Intel has the upper hand so I would buy Intel right now.

It can become very technical to explain the differences between the two CPU producers approach.

  3. I've always like AMD.  They have a better product and it's a little less expensive because they don't advertise like Intel does.  1 Ghz is the processor speed, depending on what you do, 1 might be a little slow.  Most new machines come with 2 or higher Ghz.  The cache is the ammount of space a hard drive uses to store recently opened programs.  Imagine if you went to the store and asked for bubble gum and the clerk had to go into the back to get it.  The next day, you went to the same store and asked for the same gum and again the clerk had to go into the back and get it.  If he were to bring up a whole carton of gum the first time and leave it on the counter, it would be faster next time you wanted bubble gum.

  4. Cpus are rated at how fast they can transfer data on a single thread. The bigger the cache the better because it doesn't have to access the ram so much. As far as what brand, AMD or Intel that depends on the user. I'm an Intel fan.

If you read paragraph 2 of this page it shows the newest biggest AMDs compared to the wimpiest quad Intel has--last gens Q6600 and they still prefer the Q6600.

Then, if you read this article it will show you how the AMD Phenoms had a piece of c**p stepping when they first came out.

Doesn't make someones claim that AMDs are better hold water unless they have a link to back their claim up like I have provided.

That last gen Q6600 is faster than the latest AMD and the Intel quad that replaced the Q6600 is 25-27% faster than the Q6600. Next month, according to Intel, the Nehalem cpus are coming out that are 20-30% faster than the current Intel cpus:(paragraph 2 here)

People can talk all they want about how great AMD cpus are but, as you can see by those links, AMD is disappearing  in Intel's rear view mirror. AMD has to get their clocks up to compete with Intel. 2.6 Ghz on their flagship cpu is pathetic.
