Produce Stakes Final produces surprising results at Nottingham
The Nottingham Produce Stakes Final produced shocking results Wednesday night. It wasn’t quite as shocking as it could have been, 50-1 longshot Rock It Ronan, and 40-1 longshot Rock It Diva didn’t place,
but 16-1 longshot Saint Jack made some waves. Jack won the £15,000 Stakes Final by ¾ lengths over Mill Jaguar. It was the biggest shock in greyhound racing since Tullymurry Act tested positive for Cyclizine.
Mill Jaguar did his best to help his trainer, Charlie Lister, narrow the lead Seamus Cahill has in the Trainers Challenge, but someone ‘up there’ had different ideas. Saint Jack, who led early and for
the duration of the race, won in an impressive 29.92 seconds, Jaguar came in second with a time of 29.98.
Mickly Robbie came in as the 8-11 race favourite, but he couldn’t even work his way into third place as Rainman Reg beat him out for that position by just a head.
Ronan beat his kennelmate, Diva, by 6¾ lengths to take fifth.
Both Lister and Cahill had each won races earlier in the day. First it was Cahill’s, Jimmy Lollie, easily winning the Windowconcepts.co.uk Sprint Trophy with a time of 17.85. Lollie was the 11-8 race favourite,
and had little trouble staying ahead of the rest of the pack to take the Trophy, he finished a length ahead of Slick Citi.
Taking third in the sprint was Rotar Wing, and in fourth was Ballinclare Hebe. A couple of longshots filled in the bottom two positions. Daisyfield Finch at 33-1 took fifth while Cuddlers Corner at 20-1
took sixth.
Cahill’s lead in the Trainers Challenge is monumental so it’s unlikely Lister will mount any kind of comeback, but he did counter Cahill’s sprint win by taking the Ultimate Print Ltd Gents Standard Trophy
with his hound, Bandicoot Tipoki.
Tipoki was an even odds favourite in the Standard Trophy, winning handily over Chicago Prince by 4¾ lengths with a time of 29.70. After Prince is was Farloe Titan in third.
Taking fourth was Jackdaw Summer, and in fifth was Windy Millar. Last place went to Slick Sapporo.
Both the Sprint Trophy and the Standard Trophy were worth £500.
Closing the day at Nottingham was the Stadium Bookmakers Maiden 480m Trophy.
Driving Up Doris bested 5-4 race favourite, Sheena Marina, by 1¾ lengths with a time of 29.14. Taking third was James Says, and behind him in fourth was Salacres Gift. In fifth was Kilara Lady and behind
her in last was Droopys Brandon.
