  1. You can type the product key another million times, but the result will be the same. The product key you have on you laptop is the activation code for vista. You need that, in case you have to reinstall vista.

If I were you, write down this number somewhere safe, When you loose the key, you can't reinstall vista. You will be surprised how many people do loose something that important.

When you got a installation dvd of vista, burn a copy as back up.

The original can get damaged. It is not illegal to burn a copy for your self as back up. Someone may tell you different, but they are wrong.

  2. Are you sure that the product key is for Microsoft Office? Usually the key stuck to the computer case is for Microsoft Windows.

Check the cd case and paperwork to see if the Office license key is there.

If you are sure you have the right one, check to make sure you aren't confusing l with 1 or 0 and O (or similar).

  3. The sticker on the bottom of your laptop is for your Operating System (i.e. Windows XP or Vista) not the office suite. Often laptops come with a trial version of office but when the trial runs out you have to buy it. If that is the case and you can't afford to buy a student version (around 90 GBP) then have a look at open office which is completely free

  4. That sounds like a trial version and you're trying to use the Windows registration key.  Won't work, but since it's a TRIAL version, by just clicking the Continue button you should get 25 uses or 60 days worth of use out of it.  At that time, and apparently without warning, it will only let you read and print your files.

Like being hooked like a fish, isn't it?

If you have files that are locked up in the new Word 2007 file format (.docx), here’s a possibility for salvaging them.  Microsoft offers a free Compatibility pack that allows earlier versions of Word to read Word 2007 files.  If you have access to an earlier version, this can at least give you back your documents.

On the other hand, if you’re interested in buying Word, check out this URL, especially the second group of listings.

Note that the higher of the two prices quoted is for a full version of that program and the lower, for upgrades from existing software.  Read the list of upgrade-qualifying software carefully:  MS Works is often one, and may have come on your machine.

Further, if you're a student, you may qualify for the Student/Teacher edition of Office.

    Good luck.

  5. Check the sticker again.  Is it for Office, or Windows?

  6. The one on the latop is for the OS NOT office. You need to fins the office CD it should be on the sleeve for that.
