Question:

Products that organize your life that you can't live without?

I'm seeking specific product recommendations for things to simplify one's life and things easier and more organized. For example, things like a purse organizer, cell phone charging station or laptop docking station (but I imagine there must be lots of other products that I haven't thought of or even heard of). I am alway seeking ways to get more organized.

(Other than actual branded products, I'm also interested in interesting "hacks" or ways to use what you already have in a better way...or web sites that list and rate these things)

  1. I love my Handspring Visor organizer/phone. I could easily go back to a paper organizer, but I've been using this system since 2001 and am very used to it.

I also love my hanging gift wrap organizer, my overdoor shoe organizer, and underbed storage boxes. For the bathroom, I have clear plastic trays in the medicine cabinet, that I actually bought at the supermarket! They are great for little bottles and tubes and stuff.

Instead of a "junk drawer," I have the 6-drawer version of this wooden box from Ikea:  http://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/produc...

My filing cabinet's system is based on recommendations from the book "Taming the Paper Tiger" by Barbara Hemphill. I have an index of files, and that is indispensable.

I have a PurseBrite purse organizer, but honestly it's kind of bulky. It helps if you change purses and bags often, though.

If you like tips, I suggest signing up for some Professional Organizers' email newsletters. Many send them once a month, if you don't mind getting extra email.

I've also heard that FlyLady is good.

    Good luck, and have fun!

  2. There are so many to chose from.  I did an article today on my web site that was specific for calendars.  And will continue to do specific recommendations in the future. The site is fairly new, but I have the next four months already planned.  I would love it if you stopped by.

The most popular site for what you are looking for is http://lifehacker.com/.  My favorite feature is their 5 things articles.  They ask for recommendations and list the 5 most highly recommended.

A couple of my personal favorites:

    * The Daily Home Planner - http://www.dailyhomeplanner.com/  Full function planner for the PC. Can use to coordinate personal or can use for small collaborative.

    * Umbra Bungee Card case - http://www.umbra.com/ustore/product/4603... - holds ID, a check, credit card and some cash.  I can run errands keeping it in my front pocket or I can slip it into my laptop bag when working. It is nice to be able to not have to carry my wallet and purse all of the time.

    * Another favorite low tech - http://www.pocketmod.com/ - free recyclable PDA sheet where I enter the days info from my daily planner & also fits in the case above.

    * Baskets to neatly store everything.  They always match and come in a huge variety of shapes & sizes.

These may not be the new cool gadgets, but I like inexpensive simplicity whenever possible.  I hope you find some of these interesting and I hope they will help.
