Professional Beach Volleyball returning to Australian shores – Latest news
The Australian Volleyball Federation has recently announced that a beach volleyball series will be held at Scarborough Beach in March, 2012. It has been four years aince the sandy shores in West Australia have seen beach volleyball action and the AVP has
finally decided to arrange an event in Perth. The upcoming event will draw some of the world’s best players to the country’s most iconic beaches.
The venues include Surfers Paradise and Manly, and Glenelg. The Scarborough arena will provide the main backdrop for this exciting activity. Previously, the Scarborough Beach hosted the Austrlian national surf lifesaving titles from 2007 to 2009 and now
it will become the home for beach volleyball from March 16 to 18.
In a recent interview to a local Australian newspaper, the female beach volleyball star, Tara West, disclosed her thoughts about the upcoming beach volleyball tournament. She stated: “I’m really excited for it to come to Perth. I think it will definitely
catch people’s attention because it’s such a good set-up. There’s nothing better than playing in front of a home crowd. We become really good at playing in the wind and the seabreeze makes it hard for the interstate players. If we get a good crowd down in
the amphitheatre, I don’t think there’d be anything else like it.”
Tara West is renowned Australian player, who is seeded 25th in the world. She has given many appearances at international events. She partnered with Olympic gold medallist Natalie Cook at this year’s world championships and hit the spotlight with
an exceptional performance. This time around, she has decided to team up with Doubleview resident Jen Day for the upcoming home series.
In addition to the thrilling beach volleyball competition, the event will be equipped with other fascinating features. Local music bands will perform live, Djs will play, and big screens will be mounted. Moreover, an athlete village will be created. All
in all, it is going to be a great fusion of sport and entertainment.
