Professional boxing to make a comeback in Peterborough – Boxing news
Since December 2007, Peterborough has remained deprived of professional boxing, but no more. Robert Waterman, promoter, has made full arrangements to ensure professional boxing steps foot in Peterborough once again.
On March 9, Friday, Robert booked the East of England Showground’s Exec Arena.
However, no match has been decided yet. According to Robert, the main fights of the event will be announced sometime soon. This will be the first time after Cello Renda turned out to be the master at the dinner show of Ian Pauly, promoter, at Holiday Inn.
Cello defeated Ryan Rowlinson with a fourth-round retirement win in order to secure his British Masters middleweight title.
JJ Bird was set to fight last September in the light middleweight ‘Prizefighter,’ just when he passed out. Due to this incident, he will now have to go through medical tests by the British Boxing Board of Control prior to being confirmed for the main event
against the Big Brother star.
Robert is now hopeful of bringing Eurosport cameras into the scene later this year, provided if fans support him. He is also very much inclined towards JJ Bird pitching in on the show with local ticket sellers Caine Brodie and Jake Dyer.
Robert, hoping a crowd of 1,500 for the show, said, “The Exec Arena is a great venue, the people are good to work with and if we get the support we need, there will be regular big shows in Peterborough.”
To spice things up even more, the managing director of the Exec Arena, Keith Dalton expressed, “Hopefully this show will be the start of the venue being established as a venue for major, top-class professional boxing.”
Another major excitement in this show for the fans is Brodie’s comeback. Brodie will be using the spotlight to make his comeback into professional boxing after 2 years. Brodie is 29 years old and has won 4 out of 5 super-middleweight fights. He is taking
up the opportunity to make his comeback as grand possible.
So far, it all seems to be ready for the grand event. Robert is trying his level best to ensure success of this show, and if it works out then future of professional boxing in Peterborough is bright.
