Can someone pleassse help me settle an argument with my work mates we each had a ball left before we moved to the black and they were (yellow) sitting right in a corner pocket waiting to drop it and move on to the black i rolled our ball (red) about 2mm off theres leaving them to knock them both out they decided to hit the ball nowhere giving us 2 shots but back with the same proplem but not wanting to play dirty as they did,and after lots of arguing my teammate took his shot sunk there ball knocked ours out they moved on to the black and won the game ...now the argument is my teammate seems to think we could have sunk there ball with ours and played on and hopefully sunks ours and then the black, because they played a blatant professionall foul ... can someone please help me settle this its been going on for 2 days now and i am tired of listening to them fight about it..... so i need to know the rules for a proffesionall foul in england

  1. After reading it 3 times I don'tthink BCA standerdised rules would apply in your case. You may want to consult Brittish rules.

In BCA, you can make your ball and your opponents ball in the same shot, as long as you call your ball.

You would still be on the 8 ball or your  black ball to win the game.

The two shot foul you mentioned threw me off.

                           Thank you, Johnny

  2. I agree with Johnny, the rules in UK may be different. I remember when I was over there that the pool table was though to play, although smaller than a snooker table the pockets were similarly tight and also rounded. To the point, I doubt that making both balls with one shot is a valid option on UK tables. If you don't hit it dead center the ball bounces out anyway. Foul rules may be different in the UK too. Snooker e.g. does not require to hit a rail after ball contact. I wouldn't be surprised if that applies in their pool rules as well.

    Sorry, have no solution.

  3. Which pub do you play in cos every county/town/pub has it's own rules, so it's impossible to say what is a professional foul....

    However, consider this......

  4. I assume you are using British, or 'black ball,' rules as opposed to standard 8 ball rules.

I have posted a link to the WPA website where you can read the rules yourself. I believe rule 4j (a) applies, which states that if you play a combination shot, you must pocket both your opponent's ball as well as your own to continue your turn. If your ball does not go in, it would be the other player's turn. Rule 5c also says it is a foul to pot an opponent's ball without potting your own ball.

  5. Sorry it doesn't work that way, if you hit your ball, and theirs goes iin, and yours follows in on the same shot, then only could you have shot at the eight ball. making their ball with yours doesn't give you the right to continue. You are right.
