Professionals term Pebble Beach the fifth major due to its competitiveness
The AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is starting to seem like a major tournament due to a strong field and the three courses the tournament is being played on.
The features and facts attached with the tournament is making it like a major. There are four major tournaments played throughout a year, but professionals thinks Pebble Beach can be called the fifth one.
Players think that this is the toughest course in the US, as it contains good fairways, custom designed bunkers and lush greens. Every player will spend difficult times while playing on the course in California.
Bob Estes, a four-time PGA tour winner, said: "It's going to play a lot tougher, closer to a U.S. Open," said Bob Estes, who finished tied for 16th in the 2010 Pro-Am. "It's very different than what we're accustomed to here at this time of year".
There are three remarkable courses at Pebble beach. First is the Pebble Beach Golf Links, second is Monterey Peninsula Country Club and the third and last one is Spyglass Hill Golf Club.
Another attraction attached to the Pebble Beach is 72, 72 and 70 pars. The amazing venue of the course has potential to stage major events and AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am is gaining popularity due to it.
The greens of the course are very fast, fairways are better than before and ball movement has further improved. Estes believe that the scoreboard will show some diverse figures this year as never before.
"You'll see some lower scores, but you're also going to see some higher scores," Estes said. "None of the courses are easy when the greens are this firm".
Now, the scores will be difficult for the average players due to the changed condition of the course. Similarly, there will be some professional players who will get benefit from the fast conditions and will record their highest scores on the course.
The tough environment and presence of leading players with celebrities, make this event the hottest.
This will be the fourth Professional Golf Association’s Tour event of 2012 season. And if compared to the three tournaments played before, the AT&T Pebble Beach National Pro-Am has beaten most of the events in popularity and field.
