Does anyone know some novels that portray professors. I've already read the wikipedia article and it wasn't very useful. I already have Herzog from the novel Herzog by Saul Bellow, Peter Kien from Auto da fe by Elias Canetti, Pnin from Pnin by Vladimir Nabokov

  1. "The Professor" by Charlotte Bronte.

It's about a young student's infatuation with her professor...apparently in reality, Charlotte was smitten with her own professor...

  2. Wonder Boys by Michael Chabon is a good one.  Jane Smiley's Moo is set at a university.  There's The Professor's House by Willa Cather.

Is Professor Moriarty in the Sherlock Holmes stories a real professor, or is it a nickname?

More ideas are in this article from The Atlantic about novels set on campuses:

  3. Disgrace by JM Coetzee. This book is about a professor's life. His rise and downfall. And importantly, his being a professor is also involved in his story.

Another worth reading book is Anita Desai's In Custody. This book too involves the life  and work of  aprofessor (who is the central character). I wont give a spoiler, but this book has a very beautiful plot.

  4. Was the Nutty Professor a book?

    A Beautiful Mind

Tomb Raider books and similar ones (are at least 2 other series about anthropologists besides TR and Indiana Jones).

  5. Blood Prophecy's main character is a professor:

Professor David Kesselring, Lord of the Shape-Shifters and Vlad the Impaler's heir.

David's father is a cannibal and man hunter....
