Progestrone suppositories?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant & dr prescribed me progestrone supposotories to decrease my chances of m/c again. They said to keep them refridgrated....but my question is...do they really help??

  1. well i hope so because thats what im going to be prescribed when pregnant until 20 wks + baby asprin + antibiotics every 4 weeks in case of a developing infection as i get water/kidney infections reg when pregnant and b/v and thrush...those wonderfull hormones!!

Absolutely.  Progesterone hormone is needed to sustain the pregnancy.  For the first 12-13 weeks (need to take suppositories till that time), if this level declines it can cause miscarriage.  Your level might have been on the low side, which is why the doctor probably prescribed.  It is a good thing to take regardless of whether it is needed or not just to be on the safe side.  It doesn't hurt to take it and certainly can make all the difference in minimizing miscarriage risk in the first trimester.

    After 12-13 weeks, the placenta takes over production of progesterone, so if you are past that, then miscarriage risk (due to progesterone) is pretty much gone.
