Hi all, I recently switched to using Ubuntu, I must say I am positively impressed, it feels much more solid and looks much better than windows and it-s free!! But I have a question, due to my noobness I feel I might have screwed up some installations and some settings, is there a program that can automatically detect errors on ubuntu and fix them?

Thank you very much..

  1. NO

You need to learn how to use it.

Read some books and post on some ubuntu forums. Its not like windows. It takes time and effort to get it working right. If you're prepared to put in the time and do a lot of reading / asking questions, it can be a very rewarding os to use. if you're not, you will probably just find it frustrating and confusing.

"a program that can automatically detect errors on ubuntu and fix them"

    Lol.

  2. Always "backup" your config files before editing them.

    I always run

    sudo cp /etc/X11/xorg.conf /etc/X11/xorgbackup.conf

This makes a backup of xorg.conf so I can restore it if I s***w it while editing. Other than that, I think there's no program like the one you just asked for.

  3. There is no way any program could keep track of all the ways of how a Linux system could possibly be configured. Virtually all options, other than the partitioning, can be changed at any time by either using the provided administration tools, or editing the configuration files manually.

  4. What you're asking for is a fallacy. If something was an error, it would be a bug. AI isn't yet sufficient enough to allow a software application to fix its own bugs.

If the settings aren't errors, they're settings with a specific purpose, and no software is able to tell you what a setting should be set to - if it could, it'd be automatic by default.
