Programs that I download aren't running or opening after I download them?

I just got a new pc and it has vista on it (which I am new to) and norton 360. I just tried to download firefox as save and it vanished. i tried to locate it but couldn't. then i tried to just have it run but it wouldn't run either. what to do?

You downloaded it with IE.
