Progress to Flt20 finals day for the first time fantastic: Andrew Gale – Cricket News Update
Yorkshire have progressed to Flt20 finals day for the first time in their history, and skipper http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Andrew-Gale-c1039 has described it as a fantastic achievement.
"It's fantastic. It's great to get the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Holly-Louise-Colvin-c63292 off our backs," said Gale while speaking to BBC Radio Leeds after the match.
"Every interview I do about T20 ends up being about us not reaching finals day before so now that we are there we want to go and win it," he added further.
After winning the toss at their home ground Headingley, Leeds, the home captain decided to bat first. The decision backfired as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/MJ-Lumb-c1981 Root top scored for Yorkshire with 65 runs -
his maiden T20 fifty.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Yorkshire-c867 Scored 212-5.
Skipper Gale, who returned to the side after a layoff of one month following a hip injury, scored 30 runs of 23 balls and was involved in a 59-run partnership with the top scorer.
Worcestershire chase started in a pathetic way as they lost both the openers for only 20 runs. Australian Phil Huges, who is the tournament’s highest scorer, top scored for the visiting team with 80 not out off 53 balls. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/James-Cameron-c65525 and Gareth Andrew were
the other two notable contributors with knocks of 29 and 27 respectively.
Like Yorkshire, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866, who were also chasing their maiden appearance in the finals, could only score 183-6 and finished 29 runs short.
Worcestershire have now failed to proceed beyond the quarter finals stage on three occasions. Their previous two defeats at this stage came against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Gloucestershire-c785 in 2007.
Despite the delight at reaching their maiden finals, Gale was quick to reiterate his desire to win promotion to the top tier of the county championship.
"Our main target at the start of the season was to get promoted and nothing has changed," he concluded.
"We've played some good T20 cricket and we can take the confidence from this win in to the County Championship."
