Prohibit back after a long layoff to run in the Nunthorpe Stakes at York for trainer Robert Cowell
The Oasis Dream 6-year-old bay gelding, Prohibit, will look to build on a good mid season, when he gets lined up for the Group 1 Coolmore Nunthorpe Stakes on 19 August, 2011.
Trainer Robert Cowell expects nothing less of a top performance from his older bay gelding, who says “no excuses” when the Royal Ascot Group 1 race winner lines up for the York meet on 19 August.
Prohibit is out of Well Warned by Warning, and he has looked extremely well in the pre race workout sessions, and left the trainer very pleased with his training sessions, who is adamant that Prohibit should have no excuses in the Nunthorpe Stakes.
Prohibit’s last start was in the five furlong dash at the Royal Ascot in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at the Ascot racecourse with a good ground on 14 June, 2011.
Under jockey Jim Crowley, the pair was up against the likes of Danny O’Brien trained Star Witness, Jozef Roszival trained Overdose who were expected to nail the dash in quick time, got beat by the 6-year-old bay gelding in the prestigious dash at the Royal
Ascot.
The pair broke well from the gates and held up with the lot to go all out at any suitable chance. With 2 furlongs to go, Jim Crowley edged out on the right side and kicked off Prohibit under strong drive.
Running in to the final furlong, the pair came under immense pressure from Star Witness but the pair continues their good run on the outside and defeated Star Witness by a mere half a length to win the five furlong dash.
Prohibit would be coming off a long layoff, since his last start coming at the second week of June, trainer Robert Cowell doesn’t believe that the long absence from racing would have any effect on the gelding’s performance.
He will not be underprepared for the Nunthorpe Stakes said trainer Robert Cowell. The sprinter has thrived on a very busy schedule early in the year, where he ran eight races in 5 months with a single win to show, and that too came in his second start of
the season.
In U.A.E, Prohibit proved his mettle on international level, with horses participating from all over the world in the Dubai Trophy Handicap.
Under jockey Christophe Soumillon, the gelding settled in the rear and was ridden 2 ½ furlongs out, the jockey steadied his ride for the final burst, grabbing on to the lead with just 55 yards out.
Prohibit narrowly defeated Invincible Ash by a shoulder to win the race at Meydan on 10 February, 2011.
It will be a good race to run with the competition showing up for the race, but according to Robert Cowell Prohibit shouldn’t have any excuses.
