Prohibit to miss rest of the season after going lame
Robert Cowell’s 7-year-old, Prohibit, is not going to make any appearance this season because of going lame after his run at York last weekend.
Under Neil Callan, the bay gelding met plenty of trouble in the John Smith's City Walls Stakes (Listed Race). Nevertheless, he managed to keep himself prominent all the way through, and grabbed the fourth spot by two and a quarter lengths.
He tracked the leaders wonderfully in early stages of the race, but failed to do well, when it mattered most. Staying on one pace in the final moments reduced his chances dramatically and as a result, he missed the first place by three lengths.
Owned by Dasmal, Rix, Barr, Morley and Mrs Penney, the gelding has not shown anything special this season. After suffering plenty of embarrassment at Meydan, he could not raise his game, when finishing 15th in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes at
Royal Ascot last month.
He sustained the injury in his last trip, and the connections are expecting him to recover quickly and return to action next year.
"Prohibit sadly has gone lame and probably won't be seen out for a while now. We took X-rays on Monday morning and he's got some issues going on in his knee. He won't run again this year,” Cowell told At The Races.
He added: "I don't think he'll go to Meydan in the winter. We'll probably wait for next year now, not that the injury is serious enough to keep him out that long but enough that he needs a good few months break. Meydan may be too quick for him so we'll bring
him back next year. Hopefully he'll race on."
The son of Oasis Dream has secured nine victories so far in his career. He made a couple of very good outings last season. The spectators at Royal Ascot saw him presenting a splendid show in the Group 1 King’s Stand Stakes (British Champions’ Series & Global
Sprint Challenge) last year.
After bagging the big prize, he continued his good work, and won the Group 3 Qatar Prix Du Petit Couvert at Longchamp in September 2011. The gelding has been out of form since then.
