Hello, I am a senior in High School and I have an extra class period open in my schedule so I chose to do an independent study. When I graduate, I am going to choose some type of engineering as my major. At the moment, I am leaning towards Aerospace Engineering.

In this Independent Studies class, you basically have one big project to complete throughout the school year and it gets graded by a board of judges to see if my project is acceptable in the field.

Basically I am wondering if anyone has any advice for a project I could do that involves something along the lines of aerospace engineering? I know stuff like building model rockets and model airplanes are obvious things to do, but I am supposed to more specific like constructing an R/C airplane that can fly under certain conditions.

tl;dr I have a year long project in school where i do something involving Aerospace Engineering, does anyone have any ideas or sources for what I can do?

  1. Well, for the extra class period you should Learn CAD programes (computer aided design), this will help you to design, simulate and make models for airplanes and rockets. Using this CAD tools you will be able to design an assembly for any airplane/vehicle, and simulate lines of production ...etc.

These CAD tools are very helpful for designers, especially at early stages. Some of these CAD softwares are :

    Autodesk Inventor

    Solid Works

    Catia ...etc.

About the project, you may make a design and a construction for an airplane Propeller/turbine. Anyway you will need to use the Cad tools to help you :)

    Good Luck
