  1. similarly............buy a printer with mail in rebate.

after mail in rebate, ........ $201 (color laser printer)

use it for 3months. You will need to buy ink cartridge.

    It will cost $199

the world is moved by big corporate.

give me thumbs up if you agree with me.

  2. We use 575 watt SPL lamps in our stage lights. They cost $75 to $100 each and last a few hundred hours, or less. They run so hot they would melt a projector.

Projector lamps must last a few thousand hours, be high intensity at a low temperature, and be color-correct at 6504 Kelvin. (TV white) It's not possible to do all that with the exotic materials required, at an affordable price.

Not to say that I wouldn't like an affordable option. I have a JVC HD-ILA projector, an LCoS rear projection and a DLP rear projection in my house. If all three went out at once, it would cost me around $1400 to get them running again.

Why would a guy put a $500 lamp in a projector and sell it to you for $450? Hmmm. Makes no sense to me!

  3. Yes, it does. I've got three Lowel ViP Pro studio lights that use bulbs smaller than a kid's night-light, and they run 20 bucks a pop.

  4. More like $300, but still expensive!

Google your model and you may be able to find a better price.

  5. First .. cost of lamps. "Earth: ..." is right: getting performance comes at a high price.  You can be sure that lamps wouldn't be as expensive as they are if it were easy to make them cheaper. Maybe if LED lights ever catch on....?

As to how the lamp is more expensive than the projector. First. it's a used projector ... the original price was over $1200 (MSRP). Second, I'm sure you can find the lamp cheaper. As an example, I recently bought a lamp for my Canon LCOS projector for $258 (and $39 for a 3 year warranty) that sold most places between $5-600 ... and at a few for over $700.

It may help to consider that you bought a lamp for $450 and got the projector free. You are now in the process of using up the lamp and will eventually need a new one to go in your free "lamp holder".  Looked at it that way, it's a bargain. And it even frees you to throw out the "lamp holder" and buy a different, higher performance model if you want when the old lamp dies.
