Prom Meesawat records the best WGC finish of his career at the HSBC Champions
Prom Meesawat carded a four-under par 68 in the final round of the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions, to finish tied for the 11th position, on Sunday, November 4, 2012.
He was the best Asian finisher, alongside former Asian Tour winner Hiroyuki Fujita, in the final WGC of the season.
The HSBC Champions was being held at the Mission Hills Golf Club, and was co-sanctioned by the Asian Tour, PGA Tour and the European Tour.
Meesawat started off his final-round campaign tied for the 15th position on the leaderboard. After recording a par putt on the first hole, he picked up pace and birdied the next two holes that he played.
He then added another two shots on the seventh and the ninth hole to reach the turn with a four-under par score.
His start to the back nine of the course was also amazing, as he recorded birdies on the 10th and the 12th hole, to move into the top-10 on the leaderboard.
However, he failed to keep the momentum going into the final moments of his round and conceded bogeys on the 15th and the 18th hole. Still, he managed to record the best WGC finish of his career at the Olazabal Course.
Despite faltering in the final moments, he was pleased with his overall performance in the tournament.
“Fantastic, it’s a very good week. After 12 I was six under and I didn’t think I would get that high up. I just went out and played golf,” he said. “I tried to shoot four under today which I would have been happy with”.
Talking to the reporters, he stated that a small bad move on the 15th hole completely ruined his chances of moving to the top.
After finding the fairway on the 15th hole, he decided to attack the green with a six-iron. However, his shot found the green-side water hazard for a bogey six.
“My plan on this par five was to play it three shots. I had 160 yards to cross the water and initially I wanted to lay up but in one second, I changed my mind. I then hit it into the water and eventually had a good bogey,” he explained.
