Prom Meesawat shares the 12th position after round two of the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions
Thailand’s Prom Meesawat tied for the 12th position, entering the final two rounds of the World Golf Championships – HSBC Champions. The tournament is being held at the Mission Hills Golf Club’s Olazabal Course.
HSBC Champions is the last of the four WGCs of the season, and is the only WGC held on the Asian soil.
Meesawat has been playing well right from the beginning of the tournament. He posted an impressive five-under par 67 in the opening round and added a 70 to his scorecard on day two.
Starting off on the 10th hole in the second round, the Thai star recorded four birdies on the back nine and reached the turn with a four-under par score.
He then failed to keep the momentum going into the front nine, as he bogeyed three of the first six holes, prior to recording a birdie on the seventh hole.
At the end of the day, he found himself tied for the 12th position with Lee Westwood, Martin Kaymer, Ian Poulter and Peter Hanson.
“After my first nine holes, I was nine under for the tournament and I was thinking that I’ll have three par fives coming up.  I was aiming for two birdies there and looking at four more birdies. So I’m disappointed getting to two over there,” Meesawat said.
Talking to the reporters after completing his round, he stated that he was not expecting a bogey on the par-five third hole that is regarded as one of the easiest holes on the course.
“I hit my second shot 20 yards past the hole and I thought I could still make birdie but left my third shot still short of the green and the fourth shot was six feet to the hole and I missed the par putt. I was really disappointed with that,” he explained.
In the meantime, another Thai star, Thongchai Jaidee, carded a four-under par 68 to share the 17th position on the leaderboard.
Thaworn Wiratchant, who currently leads the Asian Tour Order of Merit, recorded a two-under par 70 to tie for the 31st position.
Prior to the start of the tournament, Wiratchant was regarded as one of the hot favourites to win the title.
However, he has not been able to perform well so far and is way behind the leader, Louis Oosthuizen, who currently holds a 16-under par two-round score.
