Prom Meesawat surges to second place on the second day of the Avantha Masters – Golf News
Prom Meesawat, a professional golfer from Thailand who plays regularly on the Asian Tour, played an error-free round of eight-under par 64 in the second round of the Avantha Masters, at the DLF Golf and Country Club, on Friday, February 17, 2012.
With a great display of the game, he jumped to the second place on the leaderboard as he was previously listed at the 45th after the opening round 72.
“I am pleased with my game today,” said Meesawat, chasing his second victory on the Asian Tour.
“Eight birdies and no bogey, it appears good. Put the best part of my game today was that I sank some really short and long rolls. My conduct was not good but involving made for her,” he added.
Meesawat started off his round on the front nine and carded a total of three birdies. However, his back-nine performance was considerably impressive.
He managed back-to-back three birdies starting from 13th followed by two consecutive birdies to end his round.
Overall, his performance was mainly based on his outstanding putting technique. There was not a single shot where he looked struggling to finish with par. Each and every shot that he played seemed completely calculated.
He said that he made a number of improvements in his game in recent months, which helped him make a bogey-free round on a difficult course.
In addition to that, surging up the leaderboard with a 43-place jump has also encouraged him to enter the final two rounds of the tournament.
He now looks forward to repeating his second round performance in the remaining rounds to register his first victory of the season.
If he wins the event, he will register a win in each of the European Tour, Asian Tour and professional Golf Tour of India as the event is tri-sanctioned with all these tours.
Peter Whiteford of Scotland shot a six-under par 66 in the opening round to tie for first with Spaniard Alejandro Canizares.
He again played well and shot a four-under par 68 to retain his top position on the leaderboard. However, Canizares failed to impress his fans and shot a one-over par 73 to slip to 16th in the end.
