Prometrium at 4 weeks pregnant? any experience taking it?

I have had 2 miscarriages, both early (between 5-6 weeks) in a row. I just found out I am pregnant again. My Doctor wants me to take Prometrium (progesterone). Most things I have read said that you should take progesterone from day 1 to day 12 of your cycle to build up your lining, and it is used to help with implantation, build up your uterine lining thus preventing miscarriage PRIOR to conceiving. Basically says it helps if taken before you're pregnant, not so much after. Has anyone taken it AFTER finding out they were pregnant and had a good outcome? Any risks that you know of? I'm a little hesitant about taking it, but maybe I shouldn't be...

  1. If you have a progesterone deficiancy prometrium should generally be taken through the end of your first trimester until the placenta takes over. I know of 2 friends who have had to take progesterone during their pregnancies and both of them had healthy babies that are now 1 and 3. Your Dr. knows what he is doing, I would trust him.

  2. DEFINITELY TAKE IT.  Progesterone is the hormone that keeps you pregnant.  If levels aren't high enough, you'll miscarry.  The fall of progesterone is also what causes a period.

Progesterone is normally produced after ovulation until it falls before menstruation.  In people who are progesterone deficient, there isn't enough time after ovulation for implantation to occur before the period starts.  So progesterone is taken to lengthen that phase too.  He'll probably have you take it until 2nd trimester, which is when the placenta takes over making progesterone instead of your ovary.
