Promoter: DeMarco vs. Molina will be an exciting showdown – Boxing News
Antonio DeMarco and John Molina are scheduled to lock horns on September 8 at the Oracle Arena in Oakland, CA. DeMarco’s world title belt is on the line for the bout, which will be televised live on HBO. In addition, the card will also have a clash between
unified super middleweight champion Andre Ward and light heavyweight light heavyweight titlist Chad Dawson.
During a press conference held in Los Angeles, both fighters, DeMarco and Molina, were present along with their camps to talk about the showdown.
“In his quest to become a fighter, DeMarco arrived to Tijuana and didn’t have money or food to eat. He ate out of garbage cans, which I admit is hard for me to understand. That shows that his desire to succeed is beyond a belt or money. He’s a true Mexican
warrior,” said Gary Shaw, promoter for DeMarco.
Surprisingly, Dan Goossen, promoter of Molina, agreed with Gary’s words saying, “DeMarco is a great champion.”
Considering both fighters have more or less the same fighting capabilities, Goossen asserted, “This will be a war for as long as it lasts,” said Goossen. “It will be exciting and a great fight.”
DeMarco currently stands with 27 wins, 2 losses, 1 tie and 20 knockouts in his portfolio, whereas Molina stands with 24 wins, 1 loss and 19 knockouts in his portfolio.
DeMarco won the title on October 15 last year at the STAPLES Center in Los Angeles, CA, by knocking out Jorge Linares in the eleventh round. According to his promoter Shaw, DeMarco was determined to grab the title from Jorge and so he did.
It should be noted here that DeMarco and Molina are hardcore competitors. They both have been along the same lines for quite some time, and this is the perfect showdown to see which one of them is better.
For now, both promoters believe the showdown will be exciting for fans as well as for both the fighters, since they are of the same calibre. For Molina, this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to prove his mettle, whereas for DeMarco it will be his first
title defence fight.
