Promotional contract disputes involving Saul “Canelo” Alvarez boil over
It’s a bit of advice that should be understood be all up-and-coming fighters: make sure you’ve annulled contractual obligations before making new ones with the big boys.
Saul Alvarez is proving it’s easier said than done.  The Mexican superstar, who signed with Golden Boy Promotions earlier this year, faces an ongoing lawsuit headed by his former promoter, boxingscene.com
reports.
Alvarez (34-0, 25 KOs), is the subject of a lawsuit recently opened by Puerto Rican promoter Tutico Zabala against Golden Boy Promotions, in which Zabala claims that he still has contracts rights on the
WBC Silver junior middleweight champ.
Zabala revealed the news in a public statement that the lawsuit was filed in a Miami court.  He claims to have multiple years remaining on a promotional contract with Alvarez.

He said: “My company signed ‘Canelo.’ The document was signed for four years and expires in two.  It's in force, and also the contract can be extended if Alvarez becomes a world champion.  I have all the
evidence in my favour to win.”
The lawsuit against Golden Boy comes just after the promotional company filed their own against rival promotional stable Top Rank, in which they claim they have been cheated out of millions of dollars
in some of Manny Pacquiao’s recent fights.
In 2007 Golden Boy and Top Rank came to an initial agreement over Pacquiao, who signed with both companies, whereby Top Rank remained his promoter in exchange for doling out a percentage of his promotional
rights per fight to Golden Boy.  Percentage rates are tallied based on profits made by Top Rank per fight.
In short, Golden Boy now claims Top Rank profits were conspicuously hedged in order to reduce the amount rightfully entitled to them. But it looks like they'll have their hands full with two lawsuits.
Alvarez is coming off his best win yet, a six round knockout of veteran Carlos Baldomir.  He is now preparing to face IBO welterweight titlist Lovemore N’dou on 4 December in his native Mexico.
