I want to change my router's security from WPA to WEP.

However when I type my IP Address 192.168.1.1 into my browser's address bar, it prompts me for a user and pass with a Verizon logo. What do I do? I don't know this pass (or at least don't know which to use). How do I get it? (And don't just say talk to the administrator)

  1. The correct answer is "talk to the administrator". Who set up the router? Was it your or someone else? If it was you, you must have needed the password to set it up. If it was someone else, you need to ask them.

There are two other things you can try:

    1) You can try the default login and password. It may be 'admin' and 'admin' or 'admin' and 'password'. If you read the manual for your router (you can probably find it online) it will tell you what the defaults are.

    2) You can try 'admin' for the login (or whatever the default is) and things that the password is likely to be for the password. It may be the router's serial number. It may be your account password. It may be the name of the router manufacturer. It may be blank.

Who set up the WEP security and told you what the key is? Why can't you ask that person?

Why would you list what you know is the right answer and tell us not to give you that answer?!

  2. So, I assume this is a Verizon-supplied modem/router. They must have given you a user/passwd when they installed it.

Call them and see if it's resettable.
