Anyone know how to pronounce "Ena" the name that Queen Victoria Eugenie (1887-1969) was called.

Is is EH-nah or EE-nah?

And is it a name she had in England, prior to becoming queen of Spain? Or was it a Spanish name?

  1. After 14 hours I thought that it was about time someone replied!

My mother used to have a friend called Ena, and the stress was always on the E, Ee-nah. As for the second part of your question, Queen Eugenia's full name was Victoria Eugenie Julia Ena. Hope this helps.

  2. EE-nah. It's a Scottish place name.

  3. I don't know how to pronounce it, but she was called Ena because she was born in Scotland.

Victoria, after her maternal grandmother Queen Victoria

Eugenie, after Eugenia de Montijo, Empress of France

Julia, after her paternal grandmother, Countess Julia Hauke, later Princess of Battenberg

Ena, because she was born in Balmoral

When she converted to Catholicism a few weeks before her marriage to King Alfonso XIII she took an additional name, Cristina, to honour her mother in law, Queen María Cristina (born an Hapsburg Archduchess).
