My situation is that currently I'm an F-1 status visa. My wife is a US citizen and we're beginning the Green Card filing.

Question is for form I-864, my wife has to prove that her income is 125 percent above poverty line, which it isn't. However, it also states in the form that she can use the income of the intending immigrant (me) to supplement it. My question is as a proof of income can I have a signed letter from my father that he is going to support me financially up to $20,000 a year? My father is not a US citizen.

  1. you must find someone else (us citizen) or maybe even another green card holder (i'm not sure, check I-864) as long as they have filed their ITR (taxes) for the last 3 years with sufficient income. they do not have to be a relatives.

  2. Well, unless your father is a US resident or citizen, it won't be accepted. Now, if your wife's family want to help, that would be possible.
