Question:

Proof of insurance for out-of-state?

I was pulled over for outdated registration. My car has out-of-state plates, even though I've lived in TX for a few months. My insurance card wasn't with me. Here's my question. If I take a letter from the insurance company to the court, will this citation be dismissed? Also, I've registered my car now with TX license plates - can I get that fine removed as well?

  1. If you can prove that you had insurance coverage at the time you were given the citation,  most likely that will be dropped.  Now as far as having outdated registration and lived in Texas for a few months without changing them over,   that fine is more than likely going to stick,  because you usually have a certain amount of time,  usually 10 to 30 days,  depending on what Texas requires,   to have your registration changed when you move to another state.    Good Luck ! !

  2. if you can show you had insurance at the time of the ticket, there is a good chance they will drop that one.  i am not sure about the registering of the plates in TX.
