Proof of insurance question?

I was recently ticketed for speeding in my parents car. I presented expired insurance (the current insurance was in the car but the officer said I would still have to go to the clerks office to present it) so I got no proof of insurance (4 pts) tacked on. I was wondering if proof of insurance is valid so long as the car was insured, which it was. I'm not sure if I'm listed as a driver for the vehicle.

The law is clear.  You must have current insurance, and you must be able to present a valid up to date card showing that you have insurance on demand.  If you were not able to hand him the card when you asked, the points will probably stay on your record.

I am a little unclear on your question, but as long as the car is insured (and was insured at the time you got pulled over) you should be okay. BUT the proof of insurance you have in your car has to be current, or they will ticket you. You can just get a updated auto ID card, and present that to the court or DMV or whatever and they should waive the ticket and points.

yes just take the ticket, your ID, and the proof of insurance to the clerks office. your "current" proof of insurance should show the valid dates on it...
