Question:

Proof of the paranormal?

I don't think that the paranormal can be proven scientifically. If I have a real spirit in my house and I take a picture of it and post it online etc a lot of people are going to say it is a hoax because there a lot of people who have gave the false impressions that ghosts were in their picture online. If you record a spirit on a video camera most people are going to say it is false even if it is real. If you record the voice of a real spirit on a tape recorder most people are going to say it is false. The only way that you could prove to people that the paranormal exist is to make them experience it first hand for e.g by carrying them to a real haunted house, by taking them to a real exorcism etc. What do you think?

  1. I agree. I think thats why I and alot of other people have been seeking evidence of thier own.  I guess we can only proove or disprove it to ourselves.

  2. "Extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence"

  3. I think you are right.  It is hard to take a lot of "proof" at face value because you don't know the history of the so-called evidence.

I know that personally I don't believe most of the photos/videos/stories I read online because while there are undoubtedly some genuine people out there, there are also a lot of people who like to make stuff up just because they like to fool people.

In order for me to believe something I would have to either experience it firsthand or get the information secondhand from a person I fully trust (such as a family member or close friend).

  4. yup exactly, but even then some are going to say that there was a logical explanation for what they saw. it's a waste of time trying to convince a skeptic who is close-minded.

  5. You also have to be aware that not everyone is going to support your point of view.

So post the picture, and let the speculations begin!

  6. Agreed.  But no such thing actually exists.

  7. u should believe me. i love paranormal stuffs and i sometimes experience it. when i talk about it to my friends they just laugh and leave it. so i totally understand how u feel. still i feel bad that i myself can't prove it.

these stuffs r real. show them to ur friends sorry i don;t have any othr answers.

  8. Well you're right about the internet factor here. Anything uploaded to the internet become suspect, because then there is no accountability. Nobody knows where it really came from, whose hands it passed through, what's been done to it before being uploaded, etc. For something as extraordinary as a paranormal claim, a grainy Youtube photo/video of questionable history won't convince many critical thinkers.

But that doesn't mean that solid evidence for the paranormal cannot be collected. If the paranormal is a real phenomenon, it can be done, but it has to be done with sound scientific protocols and controls. In short, the evidence won't be coming from amateur ghosthunters posting their orb photos on the internet.

  9. Well there are people who want to actually discover the truth and there are those who dont. Those who don't will try to immediately tell you that it is false. They won't even research it. Well, if they don't want to know, why waste our time trying to prove it to them. The people who really matter are the many other people in the field of paranormal research. We are all working together to try to prove the existence of ghosts and when we do, then we can expose it to the public. Until then, I don't really worry about them because they will have nothing but negativity towards the subject. It really reflects poorly on the majority of the public because they are so ignorant to this field. It's completely possible and I'm sure will one day be proven.

  10. I think the people who just automatically claim it is false are just being stipid. How can they just automatically claim it's false? Sure they dont have proof it's real but they also dont have proof that it isnt real.

  11. I think you're right. If you know where there is a real haunted house.Somewhere you can be pretty sure something will happen.Get a video there.I'm pretty sure a convincing video would attract a newspaper or even a TV reporter.

The news services went wild for a week on a phony bigfoot.Show them a real ghost and it will be all over the news.Good luck,I really mean that.

  12. i live with a ghost/spirit, she is a young girl that had a mean aunt. she has made contact with me by phone. that call made me a true believer! (more on the phone call at end) so... at first she was mad at me, till i told her i'm not the one who hurt her. i told her i didn't mind if she stayed in my home. i told her i like her being here and she can stay as long as she wants. i told her i didn't know what happened to her, but i wish i knew, and felt sorrow for her. so anyways... i always leave the tv on at night.(most ghosts/spirits like tv) one night i woke up... Wide Awake! (i think she had something to do with that) and went for a drink of water,(usually i just go back to sleep) as i walked past the tv, antiques roadshow was on. i HEARD the guy say "sinister aunt"... when he said "SPINAKER aunt". they were looking at an old painting... of... the girls family! left to right was: her mom, her on the piano, fireplace, baby in bassinet, her brother, and her aunt, sitting at a spinning wheel. the aunt was THE sinister/spinaker, (a spinaker:is one who uses a spinning wheel) the father had long passed. in a split second i think she threw what happened into my thoughts... mom and brother went to town for supplies(town was far in them days) she stayed home ,the aunt watched her and the baby. she was playing the piano. the aunt got mad and said stop. she continued to play a bit more to finish the song. the aunt was so mad she slammed the piano key cover on her little hands crippling them... sorry this next part is a bit graffic... not knowing what to do, or how to explain to her mother, she killed the girl and hid the body, and told the mother she ran away. THIS WHOLE THOUGHT/IMAGE CAME TO ME IN A SPLIT SECOND AS I GLANCED AT THE TV! before i went back to sleep i told her how sorry i felt for her and my heart aches for her. NOW TO THE PHONE CALL! a couple nights later as i went to bed,i told her i wish i knew what her name was. 2:30ish my cellphone rings. i figure it's a wrong number (you know, bar time) THEN... voicemail chimes in. maybe one of my friends needs a ride home.(i don't drink) so i call it (i'm in michigan, my cell has a california area code, 310 for travel) the voicemail is from cali'...310! it's a girl, she said.. high john it's mandy,(my name is john)it's kinda late, (11:30ish in cali) i won't make it over tonight, maybe friday we can get coffee or somthing. call me. bye. Ooo.Kay...so it's just a wrong number? or was it? she was calling john, (my name is john, 310---310) i call her back to tell her she DIALED a wrong number and my name is john, and i have a 310 area code but i'm in michigan, but i'm not HER friend john in cali., and she still needs to call him. GET THIS!!! SHE SAID SHE DIDN'T DIAL! she used her phones contact to call! but it went to MY phone. i called sprint, they said, that can't happen. BUT IT DID! now i know her name is Mandy,.some day soon i'm going to get a piano for her to play. thats what she wants to do. WOWW I JUST GOT A CHILL...BUT PEACEFUL...she must be sitting with me at the computer. i will get the piano soon Mandy :-)

  13. Call in a local paranormal investigation group. Most, like the one I am a part of do not charge. And, they can help prove or disprove a haunting.

  14. A lot of people like to use the closed mind card. Scientists are human and really want positive evidence, not speculation. But when they issue "controls" to eliminate the frauds, protests abound. Being "open-minded" works both ways, You have to open to the fact that it is possible to be mistaken or wrong.

"It seems to me what is called for is an exquisite balance between two conflicting needs: the most skeptical scrutiny of all hypotheses that are served up to us and at the same time a great openness to new ideas … If you are only skeptical, then no new ideas make it through to you … On the other hand, if you are open to the point of gullibility and have not an ounce of skeptical sense in you, then you cannot distinguish the useful ideas from the worthless ones."

Carl Sagan "The Burden of Skepticism"

  15. Well, just because other people don't accept the proof

you have, doesn't mean it's not true. You should not

    worry what others think.

    Best wishes,

    Jean

  16. Well, I have to agree that not everyone is going see it, no matter what you do, for whatever their reason. You can lead a horse to water, but you can't make him drink and all that. I think it's about finding the right audience. I tend to see it this way: Believers stick with believers, skeptics stick with skeptics, and we do it for a reason, and not just because we hate each other. But we each believe something different "and nobody's gonna talk us out of it". That sort of thing.
