There was a letter posted in my local paper and I decided to respond back to it. I've written out my response but would like for others to read it and share their opinions and/or corrections if any. I want to make sure it's pretty much perfect before I send it to the newspaper. So thanks for your help. I'm only posting my response right now, but if you need to read the letter I'm responding to then I can post that later.
This letter is in response to a letter written by Andy Wilson concerning Decatur’s bus system. I ride the bus at least 5 days a week to work, sometimes multiple times a day. I have rode the bus my entire life, so I am quite familiar with our bus system. Mr. Wilson’s first complaint is the fact that our buses are often crowded. This of course is inevitable with gas prices hovering at about $4 a gallon. A bus ride one way costs 75 cents. Therefore more and more people are relying on the bus to get them where they need to go. Certain buses do have more riders than others, because those buses are going to areas with more businesses, such as the Water/Hickory Point bus or the St. Mary’s bus. More people riding the bus leads to good things for other bus riders, such as more routes or extending routes. This will also eventually lead to the buses running later as it has in the past. As for the last part of his letter, which brings up certain complaints that I don’t believe are complaints shared by the majority of bus riders, these are issues that should be brought to the attention of the management at the bus company. Overall, I believe that Decatur has a very well operated bus system. The fares are some of the lowest in the state, if not THE lowest in the state. The buses run very extensive routes that will get you within a few blocks of anywhere in Decatur. And most of the bus drivers are courteous and attentive to their driving and their passengers. There is always room for improvement in anything, but issues should be brought up in a timely manner to the proper people.
