I just bought a PNY Geforce 8600gt. Its factory OC. While running games, the temperature reaches about 87ºC. Is this near overheat? What temperatures should i watch out for?

  1. 87C is to hot......it wont overheat but it will reduce performance and the life of the vid card......try downloading evga precision gpu app and set up a fan profile...8600's usually only have the fan running at 30%...w/that program you can run the fan at 100%....lowing your temps....what program are you using to monitor your temps? a good one to get is hwmonitor...idle should be 40-50c and underload know more than 70c.........so give the app a shot, if that does not work invest in a aftermarket cooler for the card..........scott

    hwmonitor------http://www.cpuid.com/hwmonitor.php

edit------that fan should cool the card down some...your using ntune to monitor temps? i would get rid of it asap......that program causes major headaches and is just a bad program.....give this a try, it will work with your card.....raise the fan speed to 100%.....this program is simple, just mouse over things and it tells you what you need to know....
