Which is proper English? If you were leaving a caption under a photo on MySpace of yourself and someone else, would proper English be "Jane and Me" or "Jane and I"...I was taught the way to makee it proper was take the other person's name out and see if it sounds right. SO I say Jane and me, my friend and I have an ongiong arguement about this she says it is I, please tell me I'm right....I hate to be wrong.

  1. Jane and I -- is correct if used as the subject.

Jane and me-- is also correct if used as the object of prep.

I always put "me and Jane" under pics on myspace.

I'm always the subject of my pictures... lol

Good Luck.. battle over whom is the subject and whom is the object.

  2. If you and your friend are the subject of the sentence, it would be "Jane and I went to the store".  If you and your friend are the object of the sentence, it would be "Steve gave the gift to Jane and me".  I guess it depends what your are putting as your caption.

  3. Jane and Me

  4. If you want to be 100% correct, the answer ia "I". These days many people use "me"when it should be "I" like when you answer the phone, you might say "hi, it's me" because "Hi, it is I" sounds very old fashioned and formal

  5. I think "Jane and I" would be more correct. Even if it were only a part of the sentence, the full sentence would most likely say, "This is Jane and I." I know it sounds really formal, but in proper English you say, "This is I," "This is she," etc., using subjective rather than objective pronouns.

  6. That's a good question.  I'm not sure!  "Jane and me" seems right.  But it seems to be short for "This is Jane and me," and "this," "Jane," and "me" are all the subject, so it should be "I."  But that sounds awful!

Or maybe it's short for "This is a picture of Jane and me."  ("This is a picture of me," This is me at the beach").

Anyway, my vote's for "Jane and me."
