Proper Wedding Etiquette? Pre-Wedding Parties?

Question

My fiance and I are getting married in Las Vegas in February '09 when we go to our national bowling tournament. Only our parents will be there, and some close friends that will be there for the tournament. We are having an engagement party in October, we aren't going to have a reception when we come back. How soon do we need to send out invitations to the party?

I would definitely send out the engagement party invitations 3-4 weeks in advance.  That gives people plenty of time to shop, and organize to be there to celebrate with you!  good luck! and CONGRATULATIONS!

For the engagement party, about two-three weeks in advance is plenty of time to send out the invitations.

For the reception, you should send out printed invitations about 6 weeks in advance, as you would with a regular wedding and reception.

I say within the first week of September.  You should always give people at least 4-6 weeks notice for any type of social event where people need to RSVP.
