I have an AE named Scoooooter (emphisis, on the ooooo!) and he is pretty small. About 6 inches. He loves the algae (which I don't see much of, thanks boy!) and I would like to see if I needed to have "algae eater wafers" or anything else for him. He is in a 10 gallon with 2 frogs.

  1. It's good to have algae wafers in case there is not enough algae buildup in your tank. Sinking catfish pellets are good too. However, he is already too big for a 10 gal. Mine is 12 inches long and he's in a 30 gal. and he's still growing!!! You'll need a 60 gallon for him when he's full grown. You might want to think about upgrading now...

  2. Two frogs wont probli produce enough waste for him. Are they african dwarf frogs or african clawed frogs? I would feed him to waffers a day.

  3. I've got a breeding pair of violet plec's, (L137), one LDA 16 and a lot more otocinclus than I originally bought, (no idea actually they've been breeding). All these fish are algae eaters.

I feed them blanched cabbage, (so it sinks), weighted down cucumber and tomato, (they don't eat the skin).

The violet plec's haven't had algae wafers or plec tablets in the last eight months, if you have a supply of greens they don't need them, but I do have a tub on standby.

Experiment mine eat mushy peas out the can, but I don't like mushy peas, so that doesn't happen very often :0)

  4. what sort of algae eater

there is no one fish called an algae eater but there is

    plecostomus

    chinese algae eater

    sciamese algae eater

    and

    hillstreem loach

    all these fish eat algae

so what one do you have

  5. I feed my Clown Pleco Algae Wafers, Zuchinni slices without the rind(I used a weight to get them to the bottom and take them out after twelve hours) and a Shrimp Pellet here or there...

  6. i would get algae wafers in case there's not enough algae in the tank

  7. If it's one of the common plecos species you can feed them a mix of algae tablets, fresh veges and occasional higher protien food.

Just be aware that Plecos have been known to attack (and kill) frogs, and is going to need a MUCH bigger tank than 10gal as it grows bigger.

  8. Algae Wafers are perfect...but he's going to out-grow your tank, they need a larger tank. Not too sure about your frogs. Some frogs can grow larger than a softball. You might want an upgrade.
