Question:

Proper method of Yielding to Pedestrians (either Red or Green)?

Well, while making a right turn on either Green or Red, you must yield to pedestrians. However, what's the proper way to do it? Do I have to wait until they finish walking across the crosswalk or when they're a safe distance away from me while I make the turn?

From my experiences, drivers always make the turn when the pedestrian has past the half point or has not walked close enough to interfere with the turn (Pedestrian coming from far side), but I want to know what's the proper way to do it for a road test.

Thanks!

  1. Stop and wait until they have crossed the road....

  2. for the road test you must wait until theyre already on the sidewalk!!!!

  3. use common sense.  Yield means allow the right of way.  When they pass your direction of travel you'd better go.   Why not wait until they get to their destination and make sure they're safe for that matter..... Get it?

  4. not sure if this is "proper".

if they're going the same direction as me, I usually go soon as they clear my lane.  If they're coming towards me, I'll only go in front if it's a very wide street, and they're very slow walkers.
