I've dugout a 24" deep by 4" wide trench. Best way to lay my drain, gas, irrigation, and electrical out? The drain is a simple drain with no holes just solid 3" white landscape drain pipe. Do I have to use fabric wrap to cover all the lines? I'm thinking pea gravel at the bottom to start then lay gas pipe then cover with gravel then lay drain pipe, cover that with gravel then lay electrical and irrigation then cover with gravel then pure sand and top off with soil. This all for my landscape project.

  1. Before you make another move, make certain you are up to local code.  Gas pipe and electric are highly regulated and their proximity to one another and the drain pipe is also code regulated.

If the drain pipe freezes, it could move the gas pipe, etc.

I'll bet you code requires at least 8" between the various pipes.

Go to your county building office and find out before you blow yourself up or have to do the whole thing over again.

  2. Keep digging for the electrical, you must be at least 36" deep and it may not be covered with cinders or gravel or river run.  It must also be separated from the other lines in a separate trench.

  3. I WORK FOR BRITAINS BIGGEST WATER COMPANY AND WE RECOMEND MIN 1 MTR DOWN ,AND AT LEAST 4"INCH OF SAND COVERING 'ALL' PIPES (SAND ALSO ACTS AS A INSULATOR) as its my job i should know.
