Please note that this is probably going to be one of the stranger questions on this site. Here goes.

Is there a "proper" way to color with crayons?

My sister in law said that the proper way for a child to color is in circular motions with the crayon, making circular strokes. I was so baffled by her remark that I didn't know if she meant proper in referring to manners or proper as in child developement. I had always believed that coloring is a way for a child to express themselves. I never gave much thought as to the "proper" way to color. I am still shaking my head over this one. I checked online and have found nothing remotely close to back up her claim.

Although I still find this a little crazy I am plagued with curiosity. I am hoping to get a response from someone who deals with child developement.

  1. I think she's saying that, psyocoligically speaking, it is normal for a child to colour in circular motions because they lack the thought to realise its neater and better to use straight strokes.
