Question:

Propper Kicking Technique?

by  |  earlier

Whenever I kick, my leg doesn't fully extend either when striking a target (no human targets by the way), or if I'm just practicing. Am I chambering too soon? What is the proper way to throw a kick? Any help would be welcomed. :P

  1. It has a lot to do with stretching, flexability and physical conditioning. You should try the splits and straddles first.A good way to do them is use a pole and grab it tightly with your hands and go as far down as you can with your legs and hold for 15 secs..DO THIS every day or every time you want to practice your kicks before you do them and you should in no time start to fully extend. Also you get a lot of power out of your hips rotate your hips in your kicks.

  2. depends on what type of kick you're goin for. try stretching if you want to get higher

  3. Does this only happen with one specific type of kick, or with all kicks?

I don't think that "chambering too soon" would have ANY barring on why your leg isn't fully extending.  It could be an issue with flexibility...when I've personally noticed martial artists not fully extending, they typically seem to be people who are not very flexible, or are people who are simply trying to kick too high for their own flexibility.  My best guess would be that you're simply trying to kick higher than you really can.

  4. have someone throw balls as targets

and try kicking them in the air, it helps your aim

& try new work outs for your legs

  5. Sounds like a flexibility problem.  The way you counteract that is to practice your kicks low and slow.  You have to work on your technique and take the edge off the power.  Try throwing kicks knee height to see if you can get full extension on your kicks.  Once you do that, then slowly raise the kicks up.
