  1. DVD compresses WAY too much, discs are a pain with 20 minute recording tim for best quality, transferring video causes pooe quality video.

    Hard drive (HDD, not "HD" which is high definition) is OK - but still compresses WAY too much. Not as bad as DVD based camcorders. Long sequences cut into 20 minut segments. Extra step when archiving video after transfer to computer. AVCHD compressed files from different camcorder manufacturers not usable by all video editors.

    MiniDV tape continues to provide the least amount of video compression (DV and HDV). The tape you shoot IS the archive, DV and HDV can be edited by any manistream editor and you can export the final project back out to the camcorder for additional archiving.

    They use the GOOD media and processes... find the non-miniDV tape camcorders... there are only 2. Find the AVCHD camcorders... there's only 1.

    And with miniDV tape, you can get to a hard drive if it is that important to you...
