I'm writing an essay, what are the pros and cons of immigration.

I know some pros are that people who hire them can get good work for low pay while some cons are that some immigrants just mooch off the government and Americans while they dont pay taxes.

  1. This link is full of information on all fronts of the immigration problems this country faces.

Please remember that nothing good can come from anything ILLEGAL, including immigration.

  2. The first thing you need to do in your essay is clarify the difference between legal (or documented) immigrant and illegal (or undocumented) immigrant.  There are actually very few issues/problems with legal immigrants, and they are overwhelmingly accepted here.

Legal immigration is necessary.  It keeps our country growing, brings in new ideas and educational backgrounds, etc.  Our nation has been founded on this since the inception of the United States.

As far as low pay, that is mostly referring to illegal aliens.  Since they are not on the books, they will work for lesser wages.  The unscrupulous people who hire them enjoy paying lower wages, and also can avoid insurance premiums and other costs.  There are also instances of identity theft, and they do not pay into the tax base at the same rate as someone who is legally authorized to work in the U.S.   Sure, they pay sales tax, but they do not pay taxes on wages.  A person who is legally here has an ITIN, which allows employers to withold taxes (and legal residents are eleigible for some benefits, too).  Legal immigrants are contributing and sharing the tax burden along with the rest of the citizens.

  3. Everyone in the entire U.S. has to pay taxes. If you go into a Supermarket or just anywhere they do not ask you are you if you're illegal and if you are you don't pay any taxes, right. If someone is working with a social security number the government will deduct taxes from that number thru the entire year. At the end of the year that person cannot do their taxes and cannot claim because it's not his. Now who keeps that money? You don't, I don't then who? Answer: The government. A lot of people are ignorent because they think that way. take the time to investigate the true facts of questions that you have. It will make you a smarter and a better person because you know the entire truth not just what you hear or other people tell you. One last thing, illegal inmigrants take the jobs that no one wants. Can you see your mom and dad working in the fields everyday from dusk until dawn? I don't think so. Those so call "illegals" have families to support and believe it or not have rights also. They have the guts to work that hard for a lot less pay and they do not complaint and if they do they might get deported, thrown in jail or just get terminated.
