  1. Some public schools have resources homeschoolers don't have access to.

School radio and TV broadcasting department.  Music and Drama departments.  Student NEwspaper and printing press.  Shops with commercial drill presses.

    Not all schools have these.

That's the plus side for public school

The con side is crime, drugs, over crowding, bad lunch food, 50 minute classes.

Home school often allows you to cherry pick study materials, take your time or progress at faster rates, work day and night and even weekends or all year round.  Go on field trips to museums, stage plays, participate in sports you really like and want to excelling such as ice skating or Karate.

The cons to homeschool is often lack of advanced equipment and if you are not motivated or supervised you can fall behind.

You have to be an indepedent self-starter to homeschool.

  2. Pros of homeschooling:

*Children can have academics tailored to them, enabling them to master basic skills well and go their own pace, whatever it may be. It also means that parents can focus on material they think is being neglected in school or scrap nonsensical material that really shouldn't be a requirement in school. Not to mention that the kids get more help so they're able to progress at a better rate.

*Socially, when done well, homeschooled kids can be better socialized to real life and dealing with a variety of ages. (The con of public school is that you grow up with only kids your age and this really affects social skills and maturity levels.)

*In terms of family, homeschooled families are usually closer.

    Cons to homeschooling:

*Those who naysay it. They usually don't know what they are talking about or they are the very prejudicial, one-minded types created by public schools, the exact thing many of us don't want for our kids. Because our kids AREN'T like *them*, some think it means there's something wrong with homeschooled kids. These particular naysayers haven't considered the possibility that there's something wrong with THEM and their particular attitudes.

*The bad homeschoolers who give homeschooling a bad name. Unfortunately, it only takes one bad one out of a ton of good ones to turn people against homeschooling.

    Pros of public schooling:

*Great for parents who can't or are unwilling to homeschool.

*Great for the highly social child who thrives on being around a lot of people all the time (even if there isn't a lot of interaction).

*May be able to provide certain types of activities not available through homeschooling.

*Gives a diploma that people recognize more than a homeschool diploma.

    Cons

*The social life at school--the earlier and earlier dating, s*x, drugs, alcohol, etc. When will it stop creeping to younger ages? Already, kids in grade 5 are dressing like gr 7 and 8 kids. Not to mention the beginning of gangs, violence, general attitudes towards adults, family, learning, etc.

*The schedule. You can't just work in the mornings like you could homeschooling. You have to be there all day. And in high school, you're bringing home at least an hour of homework with you if you are a good student.

  3. public school

+ variety of people with a different knowledge bases can teach a child a wide variety of things as compared to a single individual

+ funding & resources not had at home

+ social interaction; learing to navigate, establish, and maintain non-familial relationships

    - influences of other children, including bullying, peer pressure

    - less time with family member

    homeschool

+ quality time with family member

+ abilty to form the mind of the kid via exposure

+ freedom in what is taught & when (can move at a faster pace over things the kid gets easily)

    - less social interaction

    - less exposure to how the rest of the world thinks & behaves

  4. Lets see....

    Pros....

Children don't have to wait for the class to calm down before the lessons begin. They don't have the threats of bombs or shootings or fights EVERY day. Freedom to make choices about what they want to study or do throughout the day. No bells to say "ok, drop your work and go on to the next subject." Allowed to follow interests! Lots of field trips... my children love these!!! Can go to school in their pajamas! Allowed to make their own goals (my 12 year old wants to start college while in high school then wrestle in the Olympics) in public school you aren't allowed the freedom of following your goals.... you follow the teacher's goals throughout the year.

    Cons........

It can be very expensive. You are with your children the entire day! You are the child's teacher and that is a huge responsibility! People are very closeminded and homeschoolers are constantly hearing how they aren't socialized enough .... shouldn't they worry more about why they are other things than whether or not my child is socialized???

  5. all I can think of are cons

everyone that I know that Have home schooled the kids took off as soon as they graduated (moved far away) and left it that way.  so hard to believe

the world is hard they better learn early or else it will overtake them when they get out in the workplace, school etc.
