1. Having lived in London all my life i would advise you to stick with where you are.

The people aint great, lots of crime, overly expensive on everything (food, petrol, travel), government dont give a c**p about real issues!

Only good thing is the salary, only reason why im here (so far).

    And family + friends too.

  2. You might not like it unless you've got quite a lot of money or a well paid job to go to. A one bedroom flat starts at about 800 pounds per month and a lot more if you want to live in a nice area. A house share starts at about 450 pounds and ditto. Then there's the transport costs and the costs of going out which are expensive. Unless you have a professional skill or a degree you can't expect much more than 20K for an office job and much less working in a shop or a cafe (that's before all your taxes). Also Londoners can be very unfriendly and stuck up, especially the ones who aren't working class and normal. All the pretty girls think they are it and ignore everyone and the successful and good looking men are nearly all arrogant and thoughtless. Maybe you're really rich though in which case you will probably love London.

  3. Every thing is double what you would spend.

I convented it into dollars so you can understand everything

    NEGATIVES

It is already expensive and for an American lol youll think its too expensive

    Petrol/Gas comparison

    UK $10

    USA $4

    Rent

    $2,000 per month per bedroom

average for a flat one bedroom is $2,000

You have to pay for TV license lol I dont

Bills are high as well of course insurence etc more than US

Crime like every other city but London has a very high assult rage and also robbery higher than almost all American cities you see in London the police and main public dont have guns so criminals dont fear no one. Also there is no death sentence here under 16s get less than 10 years for murder even. The law system is on the side you can say

30% of London is now immigrants who most time cant even speak English and drive like mad people

    BENEFITS

    Salary is double what

    $11.15 minimum wage

minimum wage is the lowest paid jobs by the way like street cleaning or working in mc domalds lol etc

    same as:

    $446 a week

    $23,192 a year

Me im getting $38,918 / £20,000 a year as a beginner plumber im only 17 live at home so I get to keep all the money lol. Thats is average wage like middle type jobs good jobs you get like more than double

If you are unemployed the government pays you jobs seekers allowance which is $175.13 every two weeks or you can sat $4,553.40 a year. Which is rubbish anyways but for someone living at home why not

Free health service which is called NHS

    We like American girls

PS- Never been America but from TV and people I know who have been there I would want to move there any day. Forget Britain is just one island and the only place to be is London US has all them cities beaches and lots more stuff we aint got ere. Anyways move ere if you want dont be suprised when you get bored of the white skys and rainy days

  4. 1) Depending on where you come from, you might not get mugged as often.

    2) Weather probably not as good as wherever you come from.

    3) Foods not bad, about the same as yours.

4)Petrol a phenominal price, about £1.15 per litre (about $2.80 per gallon).

    5) London, I have to admit, does have a real buzz about it as long as we're talking about The City or the West End. Covent Garden is particularly nice with plenty going on.

    6) West End shows? Generally very good.

Don't get too exited though, people are leaving England in their droves.

We have a Government that seems to actively promote the breakdown of law and order. I could go on about the shortcomings of this Government but at least there is one consolation, and that is they are going to be wiped out at the next General Election and this might give us the possibility of turning things round...but don't hold your breath!

  5. It will be more expensive, plus theres a lot of things that they dont have there that we have here like peanut butter. You can get it there but its very expensive.

  6. rain

and we have creatures called sand weevils with live in the walls and crawl up your nose at night and give people coughs

  7. HAve you ever been here? How old are you? CAn you get a working visa?

  8. BrainyAndy, It's more like $11 a gallon for petrol rather than $2.80 which you have stated

  9. london is a very expenive place to live wages are a higher then that of other major citys ,if you have the right contacts you'll do well, taxes are high you'll be taxed on every thing you earn ,buy or save you can get fined for lots of things robbed or murdered, its not easy street

  10. How about advice from an American who already made the move?

I first lived in London for a semester, then Nice for a summer, then moved back to California for a while, and now I've been living in Scotland for 2 years and don't plan to leave any time soon. I'm a PhD student here now, I'm curious if you were going to come over for school/work/just cuz?

the biggest bit of advice I can give is to be careful with your financial planning. The UK in general is massively expensive because of the weakness of the dollar (although the optimists say that a recession on this side of the Atlantic is just around the corner and that this would help the dollar value) and London is way more expensive than the rest of the UK.

Other than that I absolutely love it here, I'm a regular walking brochure.

Sorry I'm not a Brit but I hoped this helped some and good luck!!

  11. Pros of moving to London - it's a big city and it's got everything you could possibly want, food, entertainment, blah everything in fact.

There are also another 500,000 Americans already here, but you don't have to mix with them if you don't want to.
