  1. Well, a woman I know is a teacher and she has convinced me to pursue a career in it..something I always wanted, but never went for.

    Pros:

It's not as low paying as it used to be - you make enough to live on - at least that's how it is in the area I live in.

    Summers off.

    Snow days.

    Teaching the youth.

Feeling like you've made a difference.

    Cons:

It's not a job that will make you rich.

Some schools are just bad to work at (this particular woman worked at one that she just hated, then she switched schools and now she describes her job as heaven, even though she had to take a pay cut.)

Difficult children are to be expected from time to time.

  2. Pros- Spending your day facilitating learning of young people, laughing EVERY single day because children are fun and funny, creativity to teach in your own way (you are almost your own boss), and waking every morning know you do not have to work in a cubicle, in my case, outstanding colleagues and administrators

Cons-paperwork and limited bathroom breaks, parents who are not supportive, and if you are in a sad school- negative colleagues and administrators

Do your homework when looking for employment.

  3. cons:  there are better paying jobs out there, paperwork, bathroom breaks ...haha, high stakes achievement test and test prep, grading papers...

pros:  nice schedule (summers, snowdays, holidays, weekends), rewarding, making a difference in a child's life, they do funny things that make funny stories to tell to friends and family, reading aloud children's books, helping kids love to read and learn! also, the kids will think you are the greatest (this is a nice ego booster).

  4. If you have to ask you may want to consider a different profession.   It is so obvious to me that it is the best job in the world!!!!!   Kids are way more interesting than grown-ups, teacher colleagues are the coolest, you get to start over with a fresh new start every fall,     and summers off aren't anything to complain about either.

I'll be starting my 18th year in 4 weeks.

  5. Cons: Most classes are self contained, so you'll be with the kids all day and teach every subject. You have to really think about "how" to explain a concept to the student (remember, they don't have the vocabulary we do). It may take a bit longer to get their attention and you'll have to do a LOT to keep it.

Pros: You really get to know your kids if you're with them all day. They are like sponges; they'll learn quickly. They'll think you hung the moon; they love you unconditionally! This is the level that you can really make an impression on them. If they remember you, they'll remember you forever!

For me----I love to see the world from their eyes!

  6. Pros: Summers off, rewarding career, working with children, having your own classroom, and individual creativity

Cons: Underpaid, work load, and no parental or administrative support (at some schools)

  7. CONS -

    Unruly kids

    Kids with disusting habits

Having to deal with people who can't do anything for themselves

    PROS -

    Helping somones future

If you get along with kids, go for it.
