Think of all the businesses out there that could turn off some lights, or get energy efficient bulbs.  Turn up the air conditioning, the store doesn't have to be 60degrees C.  The stores can be 75 and still feel comfortable especially when the humidity is up.  More business can recycle paper and cardboard products.  And my favourite, the cleaning supplies.  They could switch to biodegradable cleaning products that are highly concentrated, you add water to them.  This saves countless empty bottles of Windex, Fantastic, Pine Sol.

The Shaklee Headquarters in Burlington, Ontario, is an Eco friendly building.  From the ventilation system, to tinted windows.  Little changes for all these businesses add up to changes in the greenhouse gases emissions.

  2. In the short term, its a great marketing ploy. Slap labels on your stuff that says "GREEN!" and change your stationery to a green logo with a leaf. Depending on the business, you can gain benefits. For many years, companies have tried to figure out how to divert waste into profits. Remember the "enzyme" laundry detergents of the 1980s? (OK. You don't. I'm old. LOL) Those were industrial wastes that were repurposed.  Diverting the waste stream is profitable. 100% of all steel is recyclable, which is cheaper than mining ore and processing it. Energy savings are always good - those take a while for the business to appreciate. Less employee illness due to environmental toxins contribute to the bottom line. It does take an evolved and intelligent leader to see long-term benefits. But everyone loves short term benefits. So, if folks can get hooked on the marketing hoopla that is "green", I am hoping they start to see the long term benefits and keep it up.

  3. Pro's:

    -Cooler in the summers

    -Warm in the winters

    -More friendly to the environment

    Con's:

-Initial costs are more then if it isn't green

-Nothing else really, just that initial cost, and your fine and dandy in the future

  4. CONS

    costs a lot of money

    pointless

costs get handed over to customers

people will still complain that you are not doing something for blah blah

  5. Pro: Good for the enviroment

Might get tax reduction (depend on cities)

    Cons;  Cost more

Short term might not sell good.

                Harder to find customer.

  6. Only pro's, cost savings, energy savings, the list goes on.
